How To Make Heart Shaped Cookies

Main Ingredients

In order to make these easy heart shaped chocolate chip cookies, you will need the following ingredients.

Chocolate Chips

You will want to buy mini chocolate chips rather than large or medium sized ones, because mini offers the best spread while not making things too sweet.

On top of that, you can get some little chocolate shaped hearts, to add even more love to the cute heart shape cookie!

Butter

Try to buy a fine one rather than a cheap one, because your heart cookies will taste and feel better for it.

The butter will need to be melted to use it in the recipe.

You can buy either salted butter or unsalted butter, the choice is up to you.

Salted butter will mean that there is already salt in the heart cookies, which we want, whereas using unsalted butter will mean that you have to add salt later on.

Egg

The essence of baking! You won’t need a whole batch, just a large one. Though if you want to make even more heart cookies, then buy more.

All Purpose Flour

This is also crucial to the recipe, but you will need to make sure you use the correct measurements.

You can do this by either using a scale or spooning the flour into measuring cups.

Brown Sugar

Using brown sugar is going to be crucial if you want your chocolate chip cookies tasting really delicious.

Granulated Sugar

On top of brown sugar, you will need granulated sugar. This isn’t so much for the taste, rather the feel of the cookie – it ensures it has that goo-like inside that chewy cookies do and a crispy outside.

Baking Soda

Baking soda gives chocolate chip cookies a coarse texture, and makes them chewy cookies.

Pure Vanilla Extract

Using this vanilla in the heart cookies will give them not only a hint of vanilla, but also make all the other flavors better.

Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter

Not an ingredient, but it’s a good idea to have a cookie cutter! Using a cookie cutter will make it easier to shape them into heart shaped cookies.

Measurements

You will need to use specific measurements of all these for the recipe. They are:

  • Chocolate Chips-Half cup.
  • Butter– One cup
  • Egg– One large
  • All Purpose Flour -One and three-quarter cups
  • Brown Sugar– Three-quarter cup
  • Granulated Sugar– Half cup
  • Baking Soda– One teaspoon

Wrinkling The Chocolate Chip Cookies

You may want to keep in mind that you can get a wrinkled top for the chocolate chip cookies.

You can do this by hand whisking the egg, butter, and sugar together briefly.

Step One- Wet Your Ingredients

First in the recipe, you want to wet all your ingredients by mixing them all together.

Take the granulated sugar and brown sugar, and mix it with the butter in a bowl.

If you bought salted butter, then you can use it straight up. if you bought unsalted butter, then you will need to add half a teaspoon of salt when doing this.

You need to then whisk all of those together, adding vanilla extract and the egg. Stop when they’re thick.

Step Two- Dry Your Ingredients

Next in the recipe is to dry out that mixture you’ve just made.

The way you do this is by sifting the baking soda and the flour into a bowl. This will become known as the flour mixture.

Add a couple of tablespoons of chocolate chips into the flour mixture, then put it all with the previous bowl.

Step Three- Combine The Dough

Fold the two mixtures together until there are no more flour streaks.

The combination of the two is going to be your cookie dough.

Let the cookie dough thicken for five minutes by leaving it.

Step Four- Make Heart Shapes

Put 12 scoops of cookie dough onto some parchment lined baking sheet, pushing the shape into a heart.

If you’ve got a heart shaped cookie cutter, you can use that to guide the cookie dough.

Make the heart long since they spread while in the oven.

Then add chocolate chips into each one.

Step Five- Chill

Now chill each heart shape in the fridge or freezer.

The fridge will do it in 45 minutes, while the freezer will take 20 minutes to cool completely.

Step Six- Baking

Now preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Spread the chocolate chip heart cookies around the parchment lined baking sheet with 5 inches between them.

Then put the prepared baking sheets of cookie dough in the oven for 10 minutes.

Though the middle won’t be baked, you want it that way!

Step Seven- Reshaping

Now reshape the cookies. Watch your fingers! Use a spatula.

You’ll need to do this as soon as you remove them from the oven.

Step Eight- Cool Completely

For five minutes, have the chocolate chip cookies cool on the parchment paper.

Then take them off the parchment paper and put them on a cooling rack.

With the remaining cookie dough, do the same from Step Four onwards.
